Bird Advent Calendar

I have trouble not buying an advent calendar when I see one and I already have way too many, but I had to make another.

This latest one is fun because you can fill all the drawers with presents. The tree came as plain wood that I painted white and then drew on it with a sharpie.

vintage ornaments

Last week at the Feed n’ Seed store there was a little antique holiday sale section off in the corner and right away I recognized a bunch of old fashioned ornaments for sale – just like the kind my Oma has – the vintage ones in metallic blue, pink and yellow with stencilled flocking. Oma also had a collection of those glittery cardboard Christmas village houses with the cellophane windows that the lights shine through. So when I saw the vintage ornaments and houses at the Feed n’ Seed I had to get them. I made a wintery forrest out of sticks behind the houses in honor of the skeleton trees in Minnesota. I think I might add some crows flying in the sky above them too so that it’s even spookier.

end of fall

We made our last trip to the leaf dump over the weekend. Fall feels over. I hope I don’t have to wait too much longer for some snow…

2012 Wall Calendar

The calendars are all finished. Each one was printed with a Gocco printer (my favorite printing technique) which is similar to a mix between a silkscreen and a stamp. The Gocco is small, pretty easy to use, and if you are lucky you can get around 50 prints made without having to re-ink.

The illustrations for these calendars were inspired by the seasons in Minnesota.

They are for sale on ETSY.

Halloween Ride

Matt figured out how to secure that jack-o-lantern to the back of my bike!  The top popped off a few times but the pumpkin managed to stay on the whole ride.
